Support
SUPPORTING CBS-BD
The services and programs Congregation B’nai Sholom – Beth David provides depend upon your support. Dues and ancillary revenue (caterer, rentals) cannot cover our entire budget; contributions, both for the annual Kol Nidre appeal and throughout the year, fill the gap. They also help you fulfill the commandment to give tzedakah (charity).
There are many reasons to give – commemorate a Yahrzeit, honor a friend or family member’s life cycle simcha, say thanks, etc. – and there are many opportunities, as well. You can contribute to any of our funds listed below. You can donate online or download a printable form and mail in with your payment. We also have commemorative opportunities for non-recurring gifts.
Ongoing Donation Opportunities
Cantor's Discretionary Fund: Used by Cantor to promote Judaism and Jewish culture through musical events and activities.
Exterior Beautification: Purchase a tree, shrub or flowers to enhance our grounds.
General Fund: Offset operating expenses and support Temple programs throughout the year.
Hebrew School Fund: Learning Center salaries, books and supplies.
Kiddush & Collations: Make services more enjoyable by offering congregants and guests an opportunity to schmooze while enjoying good food and drinks. Celebrate milestones in your life or family member's (a birthday, anniversary or other simcha with your CBS-BD family) by sponsoring the Shabbat Kiddush. We will work with you and your budget to plan the occasion and to make it special. For information or to sponsor a kiddush contact Nanci Moskowitz, 516-593-1516 or nancimoskowitz@yahoo.com
Kol Nidre Appeal: Support our programs and services by participating in our largest annual fundraiser.
Memorial Brochure: Remember your loved ones in this booklet handed out on Yom Kippur and other times Yizkor is said.
Never Again Committee Fund: Aims to prevent the toxic spread of anti-semitism through education, partnership and advocacy.
Prayer Book Fund: Help acquire and maintain siddurim, machzorim, chumashim and other religious books.
Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund: Donate to our Rabbi to assist persons and organizations in need.
Sisterhood: Subsidizes Sisterhood Programs.
Torah Repair Fund: Fund repairs to our Torahs so they can be declared Kosher and used during services.
Yahrzeit Contributions: Give to honor the memories of loved ones who have gone on to Olam HaBah.
Commemorative Opportunities
Buy a Brick: Demonstrate your support for Congregation B’nai Sholom – Beth David by purchasing a brick. Have it inscribed with your name or in honor of or in memory of a friend or family member. It will be added to the path leading to our Hempstead Avenue entrance. Bricks are available for $360.
Chapel Pews: Endowing one or more chapel pews is a very affordable way to make a lasting gift to your shul. Each pew seats four. An endowment plate inscribed with your name or your family’s name will be affixed at the end the row. Chapel pews may also be endowed to honor of lifecycle event or in memoriam. The price is $500 for each pew.
Estate Planning: Include Congregation B’nai Sholom – Beth David in your estate planning. Your lasting legacy will benefit the Temple family for years to come by helping it continue to be our spiritual home and transmit our heritage to the next generation.
Memorial Plaque: Honor the memory of a lost loved one by having a bronze plaque installed inside the synagogue engraved with the person’s name and both the English and Hebrew dates of passing. The plaques are illuminated during the week of the Yahrzeit and when Yizkor is said, and they are available for $750.
Naming Opportunities: Make a powerful statement of support and commitment by having a synagogue asset named in your honor or for a loved one. The income generated from your gift will support Congregation B’nai Sholom – Beth David and its services and programs for years to come. Naming opportunities are available at different levels.
Permanent High Holiday Seats: Purchase permanent seats in the main sanctuary that you and your family can use exclusively during the High Holidays. Each seat you purchase will have a bronze plate inscribed with the name you choose affixed to the back. The seats will remain yours for as long as you maintain your membership. Each seat costs $360 and is payable over three years.
Tree of Life: Commemorate life-cycle events such as births, baby namings, B’nai Mitzvot, graduations, weddings, birthdays and anniversaries and enrich our temple lineage by purchasing a leaf on our Tree of Life, the beautiful wall sculpture in our main lobby. Each leaf costs $250 and includes one line of engraving.
Cemetery Plots
Congregation members in good standing are entitled to a free grave upon death in a location chosen by the Cemetery Committee. The surviving spouse can reserve the adjacent grave for $1,000. Members may also pre-purchase plots for themselves or any person of the Jewish faith for $1,800 per grave. Contact the Temple office, 516-764-4100, for additional information.
