Sisterhood works to build friendship and community                                      Our programs include Judaic events, education events, social events, and fun events. We have continued our commitment to B'nai Sholom - Beth David by donating funds to the congregation for numerous special projects and assisting our congregation in raising funds.

Our mission of Sisterhood is to promote and perpetuate Conservative Judaism by modeling Jewish living and values. Our commitment to the health and well-being of our community at large is demonstrated in many of our programs and committee endeavors.  We encourage you to learn about who we are and what we do by coming to some of our events and outreach activities.

Fabric of Survival, A Legacy of Inspiration - March 30, 2025                                      This was a joint Sisterhood and Never Again Committee presentation organized by Lisa Berman that included a documentary, “Through the Eye of the Needle: The Art of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz” and commentary by her daughter, Bernice Steinhardt of the organization “Art & Remembrance.” There was a full house which included congregants and JLC students who listened with rapt attention.

Esther Krinitz preserved memories of her holocaust experience via 36 fabric collages which are currently on display at the Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore MD.  Go to www.artandremembrance.org to view online

Membership Dinner 2024

This year’s Paid-up Sisterhood Dinner had a little something for everyone, from the food to the entertainment. The Dinner Committee laid out a tasty array of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods, including falafel, schwarma, hummus, Israeli salad, assorted vegetable side dishes, and desserts.  A big “thank you” goes to Caryn Morgenbesser, Sharon Friend, and the numerous helping hands who made it all possible.

Our Torah Fund co-chairs, Connie Salwen and Sandy Friedman, honored Co-President Abby Winderman with this year’s pin for “stepping up” to the challenge, jumping in with her time and effort to keep Sisterhood strong. The theme of this year’s pin is, fittingly, “Am Yisroel Chai” (The People of Israel Lives), speaking to the strength of the Jewish people.  A donation on her behalf was made to the Fund.

After the food came the entertainment in the form of Dr. Bob Baker, a multi-faceted performer who had appeared on “America’s Got Talent” and was a finalist in the “Long Island Funniest Comic” competition.  He started with an ice-breaking game of Bingo with a twist that got the giggles going.  In between jokes and magic tricks, he brought out his traveling companions, “Oscar Makyne,” “Sigmoid Colon,” and “Mrs. Lucille Goldman” for a bit of ventriloquism and audience participation.

Overall, it was a great way to recover from the High Holiday season and Thanksgiving.
